| In 2006 a consortium of electric, natural gas, and nuclear utilities entities made up of Edison Electric Institute, American Gas Association, Nuclear Energy Institute, and National Rural Electric Cooperative Association formed the non-profit Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD). Since then CEWD has been dedicated to educating the current and future workforce in the energy industry for the State of Florida to help avoid the workforce shortage that is forthcoming. |
CEWD has partnered with such organizations as the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. The Association for Career and Technical Education, the Energy Providers Coalition for Education, the American Association of Community Colleges, and the National Association of Workforce Boards all in an effort to ensure its goals are met. By doing so, CEWD is able to team with many secondary and post-secondary educational institutions and the workforce system itself to help establish a qualified and well trained pipeline of future workforce candidates for the energy industry.
