| Tropica – IRSC’s Electric Car Project |
|
| |
- Donated to IRSC in 1990’s, Tropica was an early generation electric car.
- The Tropica Club, a cross-disciplinary collection of faculty, students, and industrial partners, is tasked with
1. Designing and building a state-of-the-art battery system
2. Designing and building a solar charging station
3. Testing and monitoring the car’s performance, environmental impact, and cost analysis.
- Car has been rebuilt with a combination of Lead acid (sealed) and Lithium ion batteries – the combination maximizes horsepower (lead acid) while adding distance (Lithium ion)
- The car is being designed to incorporate solar cells that will be mounted to the hood and trunk at a later date. These cells will charge the car while it is being driven.
